Phish
Phish – The White Tape This has the potential of becoming one of my favorite albums. I like it. It appeals to me in a similar way that Buckethead’s Colma does.

Penderecki.
Krzysztof Penderecki – 20th Century Classics: Penderecki I have no idea why, but I’m really liking this set of Penderecki. I’ve heard of his pieces before, but never really got into them. I’m liking the first few things, so far. I think Lutoslawski’ll be up next.

Weill's Threepenny Opera
Kurt Weill – The Threepenny Opera (Original Off-Broadway Cast) I actually never listened to Kurt Weill before this, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really want to conduct a performance of this, even though I’ve had no desire to conduct anything. Interesting.

Two romantic Piano Concertos.
Evgeny Kissin – Schumann: Piano Concerto Before I leave for my veritable scholastic prison, here’s a nice piano concerto for y’all. Played the most spectacularly awkward musician in the world, Evgeny Kissin. If you’re a novice in the area of Piano Concertos, and liked this, the Saint Saens is also worth checking out: Camille Saint-Saens – Saint-saens: Symphony No. 3 / Piano...

Sonata for Violin and Piano in two Movements (2009)  Soundcloud link here. After a few weeks of contemplating, I finally decided to write it out on Sibelius and share it with you guys. I was waiting for the 400 follower mark, but I was getting a bit anxious, and I’ve been dancing around the 380 mark for too long. The reason it took so long for me to decide to write it out was because...

OK Go – Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky I like this album. OK Go…..their popularity would usually turn me off but they’re actually pretty damn good, I think. (look at me sounding like a hipster even though I’m not a hipster)

Uncyclopedia - Franz Schubert →
Saw someone put up Braham’s one, so I looked up Schubert. Jesus CHRIST, don’t forget to mention his short life. And, for a followup, Schubert likes glasses.

Buxtehude, who knew?
Caterina Trogu – Buxtehude: Membra Jesu Nostri For some reason, I’m just not really a huge fan of Baroque music. I mean, I’ll always acknowledge their credit to literally all the music after them, and the beauty of a lot of pieces, but usually I’d much rather listen to Bartok or Shostakovich. Some composers I really like (and are an exception to this rule) are Bach (obviously),...

Schulhoff String Quartets
Erwin Schulhoff – Schulhoff: String Quartets Nos. 1 and 2 - 5 Pieces for String Quartet I’m in such a good mood that not even the darkness of the Schulhoff Quartets can bring me down. Doesn’t mean that I don’t love listening to them. If you’ve never heard of Schulhoff, the String Quartets a good place to start. His other stuff can be a bit…..wacky.

Hindemith and others.
Paul Hindemith – Hindemith, Janáček, Vačkář: Music for Brass, Piano and Percussion Some fantastic things happened with I searched Hindemith. I was already familiar with his Sonata for Trumpet and his Symphonic Metamorphosis, but I took a chance with this and I was not disappointed. Rhythmic, dissonant, what more could I ask for? Also, Janacek is a hilariously deceptive...

ordinarypianist asked: In regards to the G Minor Prelude, there is also the madness that is Valentina Lisitsa's performance...I can't put the link in your ask, but it's easy to find on youtube. I couldn't compare it to Gilels either, but it's worth checking out anyway :) Kudos for you for playing it though!

Balakirev (in 1869): BEHOLD ISLAMEY, THE MOST DIFFICULT PIANO PIECE EVER WRITTEN!!
Ravel: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Ravel (in 1908): BEHOLD GASPARD DE LA NUIT, THE MOST DIFFICULT PIANO PIECE EVER WRITTEN!! I can't even play it lol
Balakirev (raising fist to the sky): SCARBOOOOOOO!!!!!
Well, you might want to include some studies / transcriptions by Godowsky - musically transcending as well as technically demanding. And Frederic Rzewski's The Road is about 10 hours long. Just memorization would be hard, I believe.

Is there a particular recording you fancy I’ve done a post about this (I think) let me see if I can dig it up….. So it turns out I never did, but I’ll do some quick research right now….. Gilel’s is my hands down absolute favorite....
